Al-Ahly beats Ismaily 4-0 and warns Zamalek of the “draw”
Al-Ahly issued a stern warning to its traditional rival Zamalek before the two giants meet next Saturday, after the Reds defeated Ismaily 4-0 on Sunday, while the Whites tied with Petrojet 1-1, in the 14th round of the competition.
At Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria, Marawan Attia opened the scoring for Al-Ahly early in the 9th minute from a penalty kick, which was awarded to Slovenian Netz Gradisar, to score his first goal in his career with Al-Ahly , since joining the Red Team in January 2023, coming from Al-Ittihad Alexandria .
Imam Ashour added the second goal for Al-Ahly in the 52nd minute, following a pass from Gradishar, shooting from inside the area, and the ball hit the underside of the crossbar and crossed the goal line.
With this goal, Ashour maintained his goal-scoring habit for the fourth consecutive match in the tournament, and strengthened his lead in the tournament’s top scorers list during the current season, after raising his tally to 9 goals
Hussein El Shahat scored the third goal for Al Ahly in the 83rd minute, his second goal in his career with Al Ahly in the tournament this season, making up for the penalty kick he missed in the 26th minute, after he shot the ball and it hit the crossbar.
Ahmed Reda, who recently joined Al Ahly from Petrojet in the last winter transfer period, concluded the Red Devils’ goal festival, after scoring the fourth goal in the 87th minute, registering his first goal with his new club.
With this result, Al-Ahly, the title holder for the past two seasons, continued its superiority over Ismaili , after defeating it for the fifth consecutive match, while the team nicknamed (the Dervishes) has been unable to defeat the sons of the Red Castle since November 2010.
This victory gives Al-Ahly, which achieved its fourth consecutive victory, a strong morale boost before its match with Zamalek in the top match of the 15th round of the competition.
Al-Ahly, who achieved the biggest victory in their journey in the tournament during the current season, raised their score to 32 points, temporarily topping the table, while being two points ahead of their closest competitor, Pyramids, who will meet Modern Sport tomorrow, Monday, in the same stage.
In contrast, Ismaili, who suffered their fifth consecutive loss and their eighth in the championship this season, stopped at 12 points in fourteenth place temporarily.
Ismaily played its first match under the leadership of its interim coach, Emad Suleiman , who took over the responsibility after the departure of the previous coach, Hamad Ibrahim.
In a related context, Zamalek’s hopes of competing for the Egyptian Premier League title received another new blow, before its anticipated match with its traditional rival, Al-Ahly, in the next stage of the tournament.
Zamalek lost two valuable points in the competition for the top spot, after its exciting 1-1 draw with its host Petrojet, Sunday, in the 14th round of the competition, which also witnessed a big 4-1 victory for Al-Ahly Bank over its host Smouha.
The two goals of the match came in the last minutes of the second half, as Mostafa El Gamal scored for Petrojet in the fourth minute of stoppage time with great skill.
Al-Gamal played with Zamalek players after some great dribbling, penetrated the penalty area and shot the ball powerfully on the ground, which passed to the right of Mohamed Sobhi, Zamalek’s goalkeeper, into the net.
Petrojet squandered their lead after conceding a goal by (substitute) Nasser Mansi in the next minute, playing the role of (savior) for the white team.
The match witnessed the first appearance of Portuguese Jose Peseiro , the new technical director of Zamalek, who recently took over the responsibility, succeeding Swiss Christian Gross.
With this result, Zamalek, who are seeking to regain the title that has been absent from their coffers for the past two seasons, remained in third place in the competition standings, with 27 points, 3 points behind Pyramids (the leader), who will face Modern Sport tomorrow, Monday, in the same stage.
On the other hand, Petrojet, who returned to play in the competition this season after being in the second division for several seasons, raised their score to 18 points in seventh place temporarily until the rest of the stage matches are over.
