Barcelona coach: No one expected us to compete for titles this season
After achieving its sixth consecutive victory in the league, Barcelona’s tally rose to 57 points from 26 matches at the top, one point ahead of Atletico Madrid .
Defending champions Real Madrid are third on 54 points after losing 2-1 to Real Betis on Saturday.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick praised his players’ performance after the win over Real Sociedad, saying after the match: “We always like to play attacking football and all the players try to score as many goals as possible, and that’s what we want. We also defended better than in previous matches, and I’m no longer surprised by anything about these players.”
Despite his happiness and ambition, Flick did not want to talk about his team winning titles, saying, “It is not the right time to talk about titles, because the goal is always to prepare for the next match, and I promise that we will fight to win the three titles, and no one expected that at the beginning of the season, but we want to fight to win all the titles.”
Speaking about the Real Sociedad match, the German coach added: “We certainly benefited from the numerical shortage after the Sociedad player was sent off, and I was thinking of including Gavi, but he fell ill and told us that he had a fever, so we decided to include Dani Olmo instead.”
“I also didn’t want to replace Ronald Araujo, but I thought it would be useful to bring in another player, because sometimes we can’t keep what we plan before matches, and the coach has to act with other options,” he continued.
He concluded his statements by saying: “I am happy for Gerard Martin and Marc Casado after they both scored their first goals this season. As for Lamine Yamal , he wants to score goals like all players, but he creates more chances. The most important thing remains that the team scores, not who scores the goals.
