Barcelona fans threaten coach with death
Getafe coach Jose Bordalas received death threats from Barcelona fans after the teams’ recent La Liga match in Madrid.
A report by the Spanish newspaper “AS” stated that the coach received death threats against him and his family from Barcelona fans , in addition to a torrent of insults and verbal abuse, via his social media accounts .
The match ended in a positive draw between the two teams in the 20th round of the local competition last Saturday, a draw that did not benefit Barcelona, which stumbled in the race to win the Spanish League title. Barcelona’s goal was scored by Kounde, while Getafe’s goal was scored by Mauro Arambarri.
The match witnessed a lot of refereeing controversy and the anger of the Barcelona players towards the referee of the match because of his decisions, especially when he refused to award a penalty kick, after a Getafe player interfered with Jules Kounde.
The match also witnessed another problem, as Barcelona player Alejandro Balde was subjected to racist chants from Getafe fans, and the player received great support from many, including FIFA President Gianni Infantino, so the match went beyond the framework of football and took on other dimensions outside the circle of the beautiful game.
Barcelona’s score rose, after the draw with Getafe, to 39 points in third place, 6 points behind Atletico, the second-place team, and 7 points behind Real Madrid, the leader of the standings.
The Catalan team is preparing to face Benfica of Portugal, in the Champions League, on Tuesday, and Barcelona is looking for one point to officially guarantee qualification to the round of 16.
