UEFA has opened an investigation into Turkish defender Merih Demiral for “possible inappropriate behaviour” during the European Cup quarter-final match against Austria (2-1), it said Wednesday.

German Interior Minister Nancy Weiser responded to Demiral’s movement with a post on the X website, saying that “the symbol of Turkish right-wing extremists has no place in our stadiums,” adding: “Using European football as a platform for racism is completely unacceptable. “We are waiting for UEFA to investigate the case and consider sanctions.”
