By drawing with Switzerland. Scotland keep Euro 2024 hopes alive
Scotland kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of Euro 2024 with a 1-1 draw with Switzerland in the second round of Group A on Wednesday.
Looking to get back on track after a 5-1 loss to Germany in the opening match, Scotland started the game strongly and opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Scott McTominay fired a powerful shot that Fabian Scheer turned into his own net.
But Scotland’s lead was short-lived, with Switzerland levelling in superb fashion when returning Xherdan Shaqiri fired a powerful shot into the back of the net.
Dan Ndoi and substitute Brill Embolo found the net for Switzerland but the referee ruled out both goals for offside, while Scotland’s attempts to win continued with a header by Grant Henley but it hit the frame of the goal.
Switzerland are second in the group with four points, six behind leaders Germany, while Scotland are third with one point and must beat Hungary in next week’s final round to advance in the tournament.
