Ahmed Refaat, 30, suffered a cardiac arrest for about two hours during his team’s match against Al-Ittihad in March, and was taken to hospital where he was rescued and brought back to life.

At the time, the hospital revealed in an official statement: “The player Ahmed Refaat, a player of Modern Future Club andthe Egypt national team, came to the hospital by ambulance. He arrived in a state of cardiac arrest and according to medical protocols, CPR was performed that lasted more than two hours in the emergency.”

The statement added: “During cardiopulmonary resuscitation, a heart rhythm disturbance occurred more than once, which necessitated the use of electric shocks more than 20 times, after which the patient was placed on a ventilator tube and after stabilizing the condition, the patient was transferred to intensive care to complete treatment.”

Today, Modern Sport announced in an official statement the death of Rifaat “due to a sharp deterioration in his health condition”, after a long journey of struggle with health complications that resulted from the heart attack.

It is noteworthy that Refaat played for several prominent Egyptian clubs, including ENPPI, Zamalek and Al-Masry, and represented the Egyptian national team in 7 international matches.
