French striker Kylian Mbappe was absent from the squad during an open training session at the Roosters’ Euro 2024 headquarters on Thursday.

French sports daily L’Equipe reported that Mbappe, who trained normally on Wednesday, was doing individual workouts in the gym instead.

French sources said Mbappe suffered from back pain, as well as knee pain from a blow he suffered during a friendly against Luxembourg a few days ago.

Sources said Mbappe remained on the bench against Canada days earlier, until the last 13 minutes of the game when he came on, due to his “lack of fitness”.

L’Equipe confirmed that Mbappe will participate in the group stage with back pain, which will accompany him for at least the first half of the tournament, raising concerns about his performance in the tournament.
