Liverpool reveals the duration of the absence of its striker Jota
Premier League runners-up Liverpool are expected to be without Portugal international striker Diogo Jota until next month’s international break.
Jota has been in fine form, scoring four goals this season, but picked up an injury in the win over Chelsea earlier this month.
Coach Rennie Slot revealed that the Portuguese striker will be out until next month, ahead of Wednesday’s League Cup clash with Brighton .
In addition to missing the Brighton match, Jota will also miss the Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund and the Premier League clash at Aston Villa.
Midfielder Harvey Elliott, who has played just one game this season with a broken foot, will also be out until November but Connor Bradley could return against Brighton.
Italy international Federico Chiesa continues to suffer from injury, and Slot has not set a date for his return, saying: “He’s up and down, so sometimes he trains with us for a few days and then he’s out injured again.”
He added: “I don’t want to set a date in days or weeks because we have to ensure that he is in the best condition and not put any pressure on him.”
Slot ruled out the possibility of Chiesa returning to the Italian league on loan, explaining, “This matter never crossed my mind.”
According to the British news agency (PA Media), the match against Brighton could witness the participation of Japanese midfielder Wataru Endo, who has played one match as a starter this season.
Slot praised Endo, saying: “We need him during the season and he also needs to play. Fortunately, he played for his country, but it would be useful if he played with us for some time. I really liked his performance against West Ham United .”
