Manchester United signs Portuguese coach Amorim
English: Manchester United have appointed Portuguese Ruben Amorim as their new manager, replacing Erik ten Hag, in a bid to restore their former glory, the Premier League club said on Friday.
Ruben Amorim , 39, will join United on a contract until 2027 with an option to extend for a further year once he fulfils his commitments to Sporting Lisbon, the club that revitalised his career during his four-and-a-half years in charge.
“Robben is one of the most exciting and distinguished young managers in European football,” Manchester United said in a statement. “He has won numerous honours as a player and manager, including winning the Portuguese Primeira Liga twice with Sporting Lisbon, the first of which was the club’s first title in 19 years.”
” Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to lead the team until Robben joins,” the statement added.
The club dismissed Dutchman Erik ten Hag from his position last Monday due to disappointing results.
Manchester United explained that the new coach will take over his duties on November 11.
