Mexican Santiago Jimenez, Milan ‘s new signing from Feyenoord in the January transfer window, opened the scoring against his former team in the first minute.

Feyenoord benefited from the expulsion of French defender Theo Hernandez, who received two yellow cards in the 51st minute, to equalize through substitute Argentine striker Julian Carranza with a powerful header past French goalkeeper Mike Maignan (73).

Feyenoord will face either Inter Milan or Arsenal in the round of 16.

The Dutch team qualified for the round of 16 of the continental competition for the first time since the 1974-1975 season, in the last edition in which it succeeded in winning the first and second leg matches.

Feyenoord also achieved only their second win on Italian soil in 7 Champions League matches, having previously beaten Lazio in February 2000 2-1.
