Slot comments on the possibility of Salah, Van Dijk and Arnold leaving
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that he is not worried about the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, as long as the trio perform well.
All three players’ contracts are set to expire at the end of the season, and any of them leaving would certainly leave a huge void in Liverpool’s squad.
Van Dijk, 33, said he was in talks with club officials but was still unsure of where he would play next season, while speculation has linked both Arnold, 26, and Salah , 32, with moves away.
The players will be free to enter into negotiations with other clubs from the start of the new year, but Slot is not worried about the situation at the moment, with the trio contributing to a great start to the current season for the team.
“For me, the contract situation could become a problem if the players don’t perform as well as they are doing at the moment,” the Dutch coach said on Friday.
“At the moment, the three players are in good form, each one of them is doing really well, and there are discussions going on as Virgil said with the people he has to speak to, and that’s not me as you know. I speak to him about other things,” he added.
“Let’s wait and see, but everything he said is absolutely correct in that he doesn’t know exactly what the future will be as long as he hasn’t signed a contract with the club yet,” Slot told the PA news agency.
Liverpool host Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday , just three days after winning 3-2 in the League Cup last 16 on Wednesday.
Slot revealed that it is “not strange” to face a team again so quickly, but he expects a different match given that both teams made several line-ups for the cup match.
