Spain won 2-1, scoring the winner in the final minute of the second extra period.

Mikel Merino scored in extra time to give Spain a thrilling victory.

The game appeared to be on its way to a penalty shootout, after a 1-1 draw prevailed until the 119th minute, before Merino rose high to play a header into the goal, taking advantage of Dani Olmo’s cross.

After a goalless first half despite plenty of chances, Olmo put Spain ahead in the sixth minute of the second half.

Florian Wirtz equalised for Germany just before the end of normal time.

The Spain meet in the semi-final the winner of the meeting between Portugal and France, which takes place later on Friday.
