The crisis of the racist song. Vice President of Argentina attacks France
In a controversial situation, the vice president of the Argentina stood on the side of her country’s players, after the crisis of the “racist song” directed by a number of the team’s players to the France team, and its black players.
After winning the Copa America, some players in the Argentina team, most notably Enzo Fernandez, chanted racist words dating back to the 2022 World Cup, which were launched by Argentine fans after their country’s final against France.
The lyrics of the song, which is addressed to the naturalized France players of African descent, read: “They play for France but they are from Angola. His mother is Nigerian and his father is Cameroonian, but on the passport is French.”
Fernandez apologized in a post on his Instagram account about the video, stressing that it does not reflect his beliefs and that he rejects racism in all its forms.
But the crisis worsened after a number of Fernandes’ French teammates at Chelsea unfollowed the player on social media.
Controversial government support
Argentina Vice President Victoria Villarroel set fire to the thorny issue after her comments in which she supported Fernandez.
“A colonial country like France about a song in football will not scare us, because it showed the truth that they refuse to recognize,” Villarroel said.
“Argentina a sovereign and free state. We don’t have second-class citizens or colonies, we didn’t impose anything on anyone.”
“We will not tolerate what they do to us, Enzo I stand with you.”
Disciplinary action
The International Federation of Football “FIFA” decided on Wednesday to open an investigation against Argentina players because of their racism towards France players during their celebration of winning the Copa America football title, Sunday, at the expense of Colombia, according to Wednesday, shortly after the English club Chelsea announced a “disciplinary action” against midfielder Ensu Fernandes.
FIFA said in a statement: “FIFA is aware of a video circulating on social media and the incident is being investigated. FIFA strongly condemns any form of discrimination by anyone, whether they are players, fans or officials.”
Chelsea also decided to open a “disciplinary action” against Argentine midfielder Fernandes for participating in racist chants against France players during the celebration of winning the Copa America.
Chelsea said in a statement: “We appreciate the public apology made by our player and will use it to raise awareness. The club has taken internal disciplinary action.”
